Brenley's Gratitudes #63-100!

#63-64 - I told dad, Lexi, Chelsea, and Emily that I was grateful they were willing to accomodate my need for soft food and went to KFC with me. :)

#65 - I am grateful for insurance. It has helped us to be able to afford many things we would not normally be able to. (Fertility treatments, Hospital visits, Braces, etc)

#66 - I am grateful for my orthodontist- his office and staff is AWESOME!

#67 - I'm grateful to have braces so I can feel more confident about my smile! (...after they're off anyway haha)

#68 - I am grateful that our church has LDS Family Services to help members out with many different things at more affordable prices.

#69 - I am grateful Eric and I took a big step forward in starting the adoption process so we can become certified and hopefully adopt a baby soon!

#70 - I am grateful for the outpouring of love and support Eric and I received when we announced that we were starting the adoption process- not only from family and close friends, but strangers and people we don't know too well. So many people are excited for us and rooting for us and it is very touching to see!

#71 - I am grateful that I was able to lose 2lbs in less than a week since starting the Herbalife shakes.

#72 - I am grateful that the Herbalife shakes taste good- making it more enjoyable to eat them!

#73 - I am so grateful for the energy and good feelings I got from drinking shakes this week. I have felt really good overall!

#74 - I am grateful that Eric still thinks I'm cute with braces.

#75 - I am grateful for the temple and the happiness and peace I feel whenever I attend.

#76 - I'm grateful that the Moody's sold their house!

#77 - I am grateful for (usually) good and open communication in our family. Mom and I argued yesterday and were frustrated with each other, but we were able to talk it out today and understood where each other was coming from and apologize. Its nice to be able to talk about things openly without it being awkward and a big deal.

#78 - I am grateful for the cafeteria in the temple. I thought I was going to pass out from starvation today on our way there and the cafeteria saved me! They had mashed potatoes and vegetable soup for me to eat- awesome, since I can't chew right now!

#79 - I'm grateful that dad and I were able to work together to get the credit card paid off that had the expennnnnsive dog hospital bills on there. Its nice to have that payment gone! :)

#80 - I am grateful that I have been and felt more positive this week- negativity sucks the life out of me.

#81 - I am grateful that Presley has been learning to go on walks without a leash and is doing pretty good at listening!

#82 - I am sooo grateful for air conditioning! It is freaking hotttttt outside!

#83 - I am grateful for the chat Rylee and I had this week. I think I was able to help her feel a little bit better about herself and help her self-confidence. She seemed like she really just needed someone to talk to and I was able to sense that and we had a really good talk.

#84 - I am grateful for Eric's patience. He needs it putting up with and being married to me!

#85 - I am grateful that Eric's parents will be moving down here and getting out of Joseph City. I think it will help them so much and it will be nice to have them so close!

#86 - I am also grateful that Eric's parents sold their house too!

#87 - I am grateful for the relationship I have with my mother-in-law. She is an amazing, kind, loving woman! I really lucked out in the MIL department!

#88 - I am grateful for Eric's goals. He is driven and has so much he wants to achieve. It inspires me to think bigger and to try harder for things I want to achieve.

#89 - I am grateful for FaceTime. It is fun to call people and be able to talk to them face-to-face when you can't actually do it in person!

#90 - I am grateful that Eric's work has benefits for adoption to help us with some of the expenses. Not every benefit plan has that and we have been very blessed and lucky!

#91 - I am grateful that Eric was with me today when I went to check our friends' dog while they're out of town. There was a freakin huge scary spider there and he killed it for me! :)

#92 - I'm grateful for the hour Eric and I were able to spend just us setting up wedding stuff last night. Being together in the quiet was really nice.

#93 - I'm grateful that Chelsea and I love to sing together in the car. Not everyone is fun to sing with, but it is soooo much fun when we do it!

#94-95 - I told Eric how grateful I was that he drove home last night and for the wedding last week. He doesn't really like driving but he still did!

#96 - I am grateful that we are getting a lot faster at doing wedding set ups and take downs! We really are getting rather good at it.

#97 - I am grateful for the little card things Emily put on mine and Eric's pillows yesterday. She is so funny and cute and loves doing things for people!

#98 - I am grateful that Eric always reaches for my hand in the car. It makes me happy!

#99 - I am grateful for the spiritual oasis the temple is. When you're inside, time seems irrelevant and the world is left outside.

#100 - I am grateful and excited to have earned my first bead!

I am grateful for this Hymn and for the beautiful lyrics that come to my mind when I am facing difficult times.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Eric's gratitude #18

I'm grateful Brenley got me an old French map for Father's Day. I really love the heck out of it and if was the perfect gift. Thanks honey! I love ya!

Eric's gratitude #17

I'm grateful I was able to go to the baptism of two special girls of a family I used to home teach. I was intimidated by the assignment when I first got it, they were recently returning to church and had some huge challenges to overcome due to their choices and past mistakes. I asked The Lord for help and started visiting them regularly. It was a challenge but I tried to use charity do what the Savior would do. They still have a lot if challenges, and most likely always will, but there were moments during the baptism that were spiritually powerful. The mother said something to me after the baptism that I'm sure she was prompted to say because it was a tender mercy to a lingering question/struggle I have. It was a nice way to spend 30 min on a Saturday.

Eric's gratitude #16

I see each of you, my daughters, in different places in your life's progression.  One is bearing a child at the sacrifice of her own happy daily sojourns.  Another has sacrificed a year and a half of her life and money as she anxiously awaits to board the voyage of motherhood.  Another daughter searches her own capabilities and questions her willingness to cross over from her own childhood into becoming a mother herself.  Finally, I smile about my sweetheart of a daughter who easily carries children in her womb like a kangaroo and would be happy to be a surrogate mother for everyone but cannot foresee how she could manage another adorable toddler in her busy day.

I am grateful that Brenley is going into the nursing field and is interested in specializing in infertility.  No one can serve a person better than someone who has been through the same experiences.  For example,  I went through a period of anxiety in my life and now I understand what people with anxiety are feeling like and I know exactly how to help them best.  I believe that we have these types of experiences so that God can use us in other people's lives.  I remember the night that I lost Spencer in the hospital.  I heard a women down the hall screaming with excitement about giving birth to a healthy baby boy when I had just lost my son.  My nurse realized that this made me feel bad and she moved me out of the maternity hallway into another room.  She told me later that she had been through a similar personal experience and knew exactly what I was going through.  I will always remember how she made a difference for me.  I don't even remember the Doctor, but I remember that nurse and her empathy.

This is what I think that the "weaknesses will become our strengths"scripture is all about.  When we are able to overcome a weakness in our life, we strengthen ourselves and often times we learn to not only carry ourselves but others too.  This reminds me of Jesus carrying his own cross.  He was already worn down from the Garden of Gethsemanie and then had the added burden of carrying his own cross up to the hill to Golgotha which he was to be crucified on. He gained strength after his own moment of weakness in the Garden and thus while on the cross he was able to help the sinner who was being crucified next to him and also was strong enough to show concern for the welfare of the souls of those who were crucifying him.  That is a true example of gaining strength as one overcomes personal weakness.

In my patriarchal blessing it states that "I will receive answers to all of my blessings if I will but live as The Lord has commanded me to".I could never really understand what this meant.  When I waited for the timing to be right with The Lord for Emily to come I began to be frustrated with Him and I even remember telling my brother Kip that I was going to give The Lord a certain time frame to work within and then that would be it.  I was trying to give Heavenly Father an ultimatum.  Kip laughed that I would be so bold.  I had many priesthood blessings and in each I was told that I should not doubt that this child would come, but that it would be in the Lord's time - not mine.  Following each miscarriage, I again gave ultimatums to The Lord.  The final time that I did this I gave The Lord five minutes until I called to make an appointment to have my tubes retied because I did not think that I had the personal health or strength to go through another failed pregnancy.  This time The Lord took quick action and prompted two sisters to call me and share their testimonies of faith and the importance of good nutrition within the allotted five minutes.   Both of them had been in the same situation I was in and had felt prompted to call me.  One was a Ward Relief Society President  and one was the Stake Relief Society President.  Neither had previously  called me about a personal matter before.  We were just acquaintances.  After I spoke with them, I humbled myself before The Lord and agreed to live in faith as he had commanded me to in my priesthood blessings and that I would wait patiently for my blessings of having another child to be answered.  At that moment, I heard a clear voice in my mind that said, "Debra, you will have this girl but it will be a great sacrifice for you because you will sacrifice time from work and your life to bring this about."  It was a short message, but I lost all fear.

I did sacrifice everything that I had for Emily.  So did all of you girls.  During that time in my life, I learned to be patient with The Lord and to live in faith.  I realized that I cannot make quick and abrupt decisions about bearing children in my life without considering The Lord because there are more people involved besides myself and that I cannot see the whole picture, but he can. What if I would have made decisions that kept Emily from our family because I did not listen to the Lord and live in faith as God had commanded.  My weakness was that I did not listen to the Lord and work in his time frame and through my weakness I have now gained strength to submit to his will.  I can share that strength with others when called upon by The Lord.  I believe that giving birth to Gods Sons and Daughters is a very sacred duty.  I wish I would have been more aware of what a sacred honor this was when I was beginning my mothering years.  It is truly a miracle if you think about it.  I am grateful for however we can help to bring God's spirit children into the world.  I am especially grateful to be your Mother.   Love, Mom

Brenley's Gratitudes #13-30

#13-#14 - I told Eric today how grateful I am that we were married and that I don't have to worry about the dating scene anymore and I don't have to date anyone but him, forever. I am grateful for eternal dating!

#15 - I am grateful that I can be half way through Block 1 for nursing!

#16 - I am grateful for the promise I made to Heavenly Father to always read my scriptures/pray before I study for school and before tests. I have been blessed to do (fairly) well on my tests, even when I didn't feel confident about some of them. ...this is also how I got an A in Microbiology. :)

#17 - I am grateful I have made good friend's at nursing school.

#18 - I am grateful mom is working so hard to make sure the beads are here for everyone... even if we aren't close to the first hundred yet. ;)

#19 - I am grateful that Chelsea and Mom love my dog so much. It makes me happy! :)

#20 - I am so grateful for the clothes I got on my last couple shopping trips- they make me feel good about myself and I feel like I look better.

#21 - I am thankful for Dr. Amols. He has been a blessing in our lives, even if he didn't get us pregnant yet. He is going to help set me up with some Nurse Practitioners in the Reproductive field to shadow while I'm in school so that I can network and also see if that is something I'd like to do.

#22 - I am grateful for my wedding ring. I love that Eric picked it out completely by himself. Looking at it brings me joy and gives me butterflies because I still have a huge, school-girl crush on him. :)

#23 - I am grateful for my new bedding! I really love it.

#24 - I am grateful for the horizontal mambo/whoopie/happy-birthday-disneyland/marriage hug/"napping"/naked sundays/whatever other code words you use. Don't worry, Dad- I'll leave it at that! (But I'm honestly surprised no one has posted it yet.)

#25 - I am grateful that Eric loves the really cool, old, 1700's french map I got for him. I love giving gifts!

#26 - I am grateful I have been able to help others out in different ways because of infertility. I have shared my extra drugs with a friend who was going through IVF, which ultimately got her pregnant (totally legal... ;)),  made new friends both online and in person, been support and confidant for others struggling, nannied a once-stranger-but-bought-her-fertility-drugs-online-and-now-friend's adorable (IVF) baby when she had no one else to turn to, shared the gospel with that same new friend, referred people my doctor (a few friends, friends of family members, random people I have met..oh and a random WF bank teller) and I've been a source of information about how things work, what to expect, what medications do, ect... There's more I could write but I'll just stop there. Even though it has completely sucked and has been so hard, I have still seen blessings come from being able to help others. :)

#27 - I am grateful for the talent I have of making friends.

#28 - I am grateful for my patriarchal blessing. It is perfect.

#29 - I am grateful that Eric loves me so much, and that everyone can tell! People constantly tell me they can see how much he adores me. I am so blessed!

#30 - I am grateful that mom and dad still flirt with each other and pinch each other's bums and hold hands. It makes me happy to see that they love each other and work to keep their marriage fire alive. In a world (and family) of divorcee's, they have managed to not only have a healthy relationship with each other and stay happily together, but also raise daughters and have a good relationship with each of them as well.
